Are You Eating Too Much?

“And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.” – Deuteronomy 21:20 KJV

During this time of social distancing, self-quarantine or mandatory quarantine, it has been a time to slow down and reflect over our lives and futures. Okay maybe not, especially when it comes to eating. Am I the only one that has noticed my eating habits have changed in a way that is not good? Have you noticed that your eating habits have changed negatively as well during the COVID-19 Pandemic?

From March to May, I was doing fairly well with my eating habits and my weight was where I liked it. I was eating more veggies, baked instead of fried food,  drinking more water, and I was more productive towards my life coaching business and other areas of my life. My mind was also clearer and focused.  For most of June and into the beginning of July, I was not slowing down on eating or reflecting on how my eating habits were harming me until my body started to alert me that something was wrong.

I began to linger on my couch. I paid to start my video streaming accounts back up when I originally stopped them to stop spending money on things that were not a necessity. I also started to scroll more on social media. It seemed like I was picking up my cell phone to look on social media every five minutes.

Previously, I would not have my television on throughout the week. When I would get on social media, I would post something on my personal Facebook page and my business Getting To The Root Facebook page, but I would not scroll through the feeds or read any posts of my Facebook friends/acquaintances to avoid seeing something that would distract me from accomplishing tasks, that I needed to get done throughout the day.  I would set up my screen time on my cell phone.  After,  I was on social media for an hour and a half my phone would notify me that I reached my limit and then it would gray out my social media apps to help keep me from being distracted by social media.

Once, I began spending more time being idle and not productive, it made me have the desire to eat. Not just for nourishment but just to be eating for no reason. I would see posts of food on social media sites.  I would watch a movie seeing someone eating something and I would want what they were eating. I would either cook something or order delivery after seeing those images of food. I live alone and I began to spend more money on groceries as if  I had other people living with me.

As I was struggling to get back on course and to remove the distractions, my body and mind began to become affected by my excessive eating. My sugar levels begin to soar, I became very tired, I was sleeping more than usual, and my body began to experience pain due to my blood glucose was elevated. Even though I was experiencing those issues, I continued to crave unhealthy food. The desire to eat became a distraction and welcomed in laziness and procrastination. I also gained the weight back that I originally had lost back in April.

Have you experienced any of those things that I shared about eating excessively during the COVID-19 pandemic? Do you want to get to the root with me of what can be contributing to eating excessively to the point it is hindering us from being productive and harming our overall health? Do you want to identify with me what may have triggered our excessive eating during this time of the COVID-19 Pandemic?
