Do you feel that you may have an issue with excessive eating? Did you know that you may be dealing with an unclean spirit of gluttony? You may ask, what exactly is an unclean spirit. An unclean spirit is simply a New Testament synonym, a more descriptive Jewish term, for a demon. The terms unclean spirit and demon seem to be interchangeable in Scripture. Some translations refer to them as “impure spirits.”
Many individuals walk around with unclean spirits and they are not aware that what they believe is their personality or normal behavior is an unclean spirit (demon) that is manifesting its personality and it is not the person’s true personality. If you believe that you may be dealing with an unclean spirit of gluttony here is an excerpt from my Getting To The Root w/ Dr. Reva podcast episode where I discussed The Spirit of Gluttony:
Excerpt
It was not until many years later after rededicating my life to Jesus Christ that I learned that a spiritual door of disobedience had been opened due to eating excessively and not in moderation; even though the spiritual door was opened out of ignorance (not knowing that I was willfully sinning, but I was led to this scripture Romans 6:16 “Don’t you realize that whatever you choose to obey becomes your master? You can choose sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God and receive his approval”) Even when we may sin out of ignorance; Satan, still and will use it against us because he is not ignorant to what is written in the Bible and he knows the Bible better than we do and knows how to manipulate and trick us. Added is what Satan’s motives and desires are:
- Any action or attitude that scripture tells us not to do and we do it or anything that scripture tells us to do and we refuse to do it opens up a spiritual door of disobedience that can allow unclean spirits to enter into our lives. Satan will use our disobedience to have a legal right to hinder receiving what God wants to give us.
- He wants us distracted.
- He wants us to idolize things that are not God.
- If we put food above God. We have made food an idol.
- He wants us self-absorbed so that we will not care about others, help others, pray for others.
- He wants to hinder us from making an impact in the world for the Kingdom of God.
- He does not want us to experience the fruits of the spirit which are : Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Some of the negative fruit that you can see from a spirit of gluttony:
- Your productivity is limited
- Slothfulness, procrastination, and laziness
- Mind becomes foggy and unclear; will have a difficult time focusing on tasks
- Health becomes affected
- Food addictions
