“A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.” – Proverbs 16:9 KJV
Proverbs 16:9 states A man’s heart devisth his way; but the Lord directed his steps. Does that verse resonate to you in regard to what you have experienced in your own life, of your steps being directed by the Lord? It definitely resonates to me.
As Jeremiah 1:5 states, Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
Before God formed me in my mother’s womb, he knew me. My mother and father already had my sister, they had planned on waiting to have more children due to wanting to start a business. My father was to be a car mechanic and my mother was going to be the bookkeeper for the business. My mother told me that she believed that they made a decision together on not having another child until their dream business became profitable. She said that unexpectedly, my father became adamant about having another child. Though both of my parents were Christians at the time, they did not understand that God will often reveal something to the husband first before he will to the wife. That’s clear all throughout the Bible. God is a God of order. He made Adam before He made Eve.
Even though my mother wanted to go with the original plan. She became pregnant with cute little me in 1972. I was given the name Reva and I did not know until 2016 after going through a time of fasting and prayer, that the name Reva was a strong and powerful name. Though my mother told me that she gave me the name Reva because it just seemed to fit. God revealed to me during that fast, He was the one that put it on my mom’s heart to give me a Hebrew name. The name Reva is from Hebrew origin, and it means “to tie, bind, trap, and snare.”
When I joined the military at the age of 18, I did not realize that it would be God directing my steps. In my yearbook, as a senior, we were encouraged to share what our future plans were going to be. For me, I put that I was going to join the military, marry a pilot, have two children, and live in a house with a white picket fence. I know now that I needed to join the military for God’s reasons and not mine. I needed to understand the chain of command. In March 2016, I met a stranger at a community event, and he told me that I did not know who I was. I was perplexed and did not understand. He then proceeded to tell me that I was a warrior/prince in God’s Army. That God needed me to be alone for a time because what I was to do for God, I was not prepared to do it yet.
While I was in the military and after retiring from the military, I pursued my education. I did not realize that my name, my military background, my three degrees in business administration was leading me to start a Christian Life Coaching business. While I was finishing up my doctorate degree God put four words into my spirit. Christian Spiritual Life Coach. I did not even know what a life coach was, and I definitely did not know what a Christian Spiritual Life Coach was. So, I ended up putting it in the back of my mind. Once I obtained my doctorate degree, I immediately got hired as a government contractor. Within 60 days, I was fired for cause, though the company never told me what the “cause” was. I believe that God was telling me it was because I was trying to order my own steps. Following me being fired, I pursued a certification as a Christian Spiritual Life Coach. After getting my certification. Nine months later I started my business Getting To The Root.
In conclusion, Proverbs 16:9 states A man’s heart devisth his way; but the Lord directed his steps. My father was adamant that him and my mother have another child, I was given a name that is of Hebrew origin that means to tie, bind, trap, and snare. I had to learn about chain of command/authority because I am a warrior in the Army of God, I had to obtain business degrees to help prepare me to be a business owner, I needed to learn about business, because God was going to place me in the marketplace to reach people that way, and I became a Christian Spiritual Life coach to help other Christians get to the root of spiritual issues. According to God’s Word, His word does not return void and it accomplishes what it pleases. I close with this As Jeremiah 1:5 states, Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. As a Christian Spiritual Life Coach, I have already touched nations without even stepping foot on the soil of some of those nations.
My question to you, Is God directing your steps too?
