Imagine you’re living in a beautiful, quaint village nestled in the heart of a vast orchard. The villagers rely heavily on the fruit trees for sustenance, community activities, and even their sense of purpose and belonging. However, over time, strange issues start to crop up. Some of the fruit trees begin to produce sour fruit, while others cease bearing fruit altogether.
One day, a wise gardener named Jo Ann arrives in the village. The villagers show her the withering trees and the sour fruits. Without hesitation, Jo Ann begins to examine not the fruit, but the roots of the trees. She shares a parable with the villagers that mirrors their predicament:
“Consider your orchard as the garden of your life, where each tree represents an area of your personal growth and spiritual health. You see, the fruits are your actions and outcomes, shaped by the health of the roots—your foundational beliefs, thoughts, and spiritual connections. When the roots are nourished with the pure water of Holy Scripture and the principles of righteousness, the trees flourish, producing the sweet fruits of holiness and love. However, when the roots are infected by the pests of sin, doubt, or past traumas—the deep-rooted issues—the trees suffer, yielding sour fruits and sometimes stunting growth.”
Jo Ann then introduces them to her special program, the “Abiding in the Glory of God.” She explains it like a boot camp, where villagers learn how to tend to their spiritual roots, ensuring they’re planted in the fertile soil of God’s Word. She emphasizes the importance of not just pruning the branches or picking the bad fruit but going deeper to treat the roots with care, ensuring that any generational and spiritual pests are dealt with thoroughly.
Through Jo Ann’s guidance, the villagers set out, with their shovels of humility and watering cans filled with compassion, to heal their roots individually and as a community. As they follow Jo Ann’s nurturing advice, the orchard begins to transform. The boot camp participants form a tight knit gardening committee, supporting each other while tending their trees and ensuring they maintain their newfound health and vibrancy.
Some time passes, and the village’s orchard becomes bountiful again, full of luscious, sweet fruit. Jo Ann’s “Abiding in the Glory of God” program becomes the pride of the village, a testament to the importance of addressing the root issues, walking in purity and righteousness, and upholding an environment where every villager can thrive under the nurturing warmth of the orchard’s glory.
