When someone comes to me for Christian life coaching—whether for a free introductory call or to begin a coaching journey—I always ask a simple but revealing question:
“What led you to seek out a Christian life coach?”
The answers vary, but one conversation with a former client stood out. When I gently asked if she had sought help through her church, she shared something many quietly feel but rarely voice:
“I didn’t want to go to my church for this.”
It wasn’t because she disliked her church. She loved her church family deeply. But she didn’t believe they could meet her where she was spiritually struggling. What she was facing was indeed a spiritual issue—but not one she felt her church was equipped to walk her through.
The Gaps We See Today
This isn’t uncommon. In the days of Paul and the apostles, the churches were unified in doctrine, equipping the saints and strengthening the Body. But today, we often see different emphases:
- One church may highlight prosperity.
- Another intercessory prayer.
- Another focuses on the fivefold ministry.
- Another on holiness.
None of these focuses are wrong in themselves, but they are often narrow. The result? Many believers are left without the full equipping they need for the very real spiritual battles they face.
Why It Matters for the Body of Christ
When unresolved spiritual roots remain in the lives of believers, it doesn’t just affect the individual—it weakens the Body as a whole. Scripture reminds us:
“If one part suffers, every part suffers with it” (1 Corinthians 12:26).
When members are entangled in spiritual struggles that remain unhealed, the entire church feels the weight. That’s why it’s so important to deal with what’s beneath the surface—the roots.
How Christian Life Coaching Comes Alongside the Church
Christian life coaching is not here to replace the church. Rather, it comes alongside the Body to help believers:
- Identify the hidden roots hindering growth.
- Uproot what no longer belongs.
- Plant new seeds of faith and healing.
- Thrive in Christ, bearing fruit that lasts.
This is the work of getting to the root—because true transformation begins when we deal with what’s buried beneath the surface.
